Sioux Lookout Air Terminal Building, Sioux Lookout, Ontario

Calnitsky Associates Architects, working with Maple Reinders Inc., were one of three design-build teams shortlisted by the Municipality of Sioux Lookout to prepare drawings and specifications for a 30,000 sf expansion to the Sioux Lookout Air Terminal Building.

The design of the expansion had a number of challenges, including maintaining complete operation of the facility during construction. Issues addressed included a traffic and circulation study, management of flight arrivals and departures, passengers and baggage control, and freight handling.

In addition, the existing navigation tower had to remain fully operational to guide flights, with continuous visual line-of-sight to all aircraft manoeuvring.
