Peter Pitseolak High School Addition/Renovation
The addition and renovation to Peter Pitseolak High School in Cape Dorset, Nunavut included a 1300m2 addition to the existing facility, bringing the total area for the school to 3660m2. Included in the new addition: additional gymnasium, four new classrooms, language classroom, music and drama room, art classroom, additional CTS space, Vice-Principal’s office, washrooms, new kitchenette and daycare.
Community involvement throughout the design process was of great importance. Information and feedback by user groups and the community at large were incorporated into all stages of the design. Throughout the project, Calnitsky Associates Architects endeavoured to assist the community in maximizing the opportunities for employment of Inuit firms and community members as well as the utilization of local resources.
